Functional Medicine in the United States
Root-cause care by telemedicine, currently serving patients across Texas
Most people who find us have already done the responsible thing. They saw their doctor, ran the standard panel, and heard that everything looked normal. Yet the fatigue, the brain fog, the digestive trouble or the stubborn weight never left. Functional Medicine of Houston exists for that patient. We look past “which diagnosis fits these symptoms” and ask a harder question: why is this happening in this particular body, and what does the data actually show?
Our practice is built for telemedicine. Dr. Bobbie Stowe, DC, meets with patients by video, orders advanced laboratory testing, interprets the results through an optimal-range lens rather than a disease-range lens, and builds a protocol around that patient’s own numbers and lifestyle. Today that care is available to patients anywhere in Texas. This page is the starting point for the regions and cities we serve.

Outside Texas?
We are not currently accepting patients who live outside Texas. If that changes, this page will be the first place it is announced. In the meantime, our blog is open to everyone and covers the thinking behind the way we practice.
What Functional Medicine Looks Like Here
Three things separate this practice from a standard appointment.
Testing that goes beyond the standard panel. Conventional blood work is designed to catch disease. Our panels are designed to catch dysfunction earlier, and they are read against optimal ranges instead of the wide reference ranges a laboratory prints by default.
A protocol built from your data. Nothing here is a one-size program. The plan is assembled from what your results say about blockages in the body’s natural processes and deficiencies in the nutrients it needs to run.
Time and access. Visits happen by video from your home or office anywhere in Texas. You are not squeezed into a fifteen-minute slot, and there is no insurance company deciding what can be discussed.
Our Testing
Eight categories of testing are available depending on what your history and symptoms point toward.
- Blood lab tests – a broad metabolic, hormonal and inflammatory picture, interpreted for optimal function rather than only for disease.
- Food and chemical sensitivity testing – identifies foods and compounds that may be driving a reactive pattern.
- Comprehensive GI testing – looks at digestion, absorption, the microbiome and gut inflammation.
- Mold and mycotoxin testing – screens for exposure that can sit behind unexplained fatigue and brain fog.
- Adrenal testing – maps the daily cortisol rhythm instead of a single morning value.
- Micronutrient testing – measures the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants your cells actually have available.
- Lipoprotein particle profile – goes beyond total cholesterol to particle number and size.
- Telomere testing – a cellular-aging marker used to track the effect of a protocol over time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you see patients outside Texas?
Not at this time. Dr. Stowe sees patients across Texas by telemedicine. Residents of other states are welcome to read and subscribe to the blog, and this page will be updated if the service area expands.
How does a telemedicine visit work?
Visits are by secure video. After an initial consultation, Dr. Stowe orders the testing your history calls for, reviews the results with you on a follow-up video visit, and builds your protocol from those results. Follow-ups continue by video.
Do you take insurance or Medicare?
No. The practice is cash-pay. That is a deliberate choice: it means the testing ordered and the time spent are decided by your case, not by a payer’s rules.
Is functional medicine a replacement for my regular doctor?
No. We respect the role of your physician and encourage you to keep that relationship. Functional medicine is a complementary, whole-body approach focused on supporting the body’s natural ability to function; it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.
What is the first step?
Request a free consultation. It is a conversation about your history and what you have already tried, so you can decide whether this approach fits before any testing is ordered.
Why is the practice called “of Houston” if you serve all of Texas?
The practice began serving Houston-area patients and kept the name as it moved to a statewide telemedicine model. Patients in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth and more than a dozen other Texas cities now work with us the same way.
Meet Dr. Bobbie Stowe, DC
Dr. Bobbie Stowe is the founder and clinical director of Functional Medicine of Houston. As a Doctor of Chiropractic with advanced training in functional medicine, he brings a whole-body perspective to patient care that goes well beyond the standard appointment model. He has been supporting patients in pursuing better health for over 15 years, and his approach focuses on two primary areas: blockages in the body’s natural processes, and deficiencies of the vital nutrients the body needs to function properly.
